Making Our Mark
During the first year of the project, we focussed on delivering in-class sessions, creating bespoke online session content that was hosted on the project website, held teacher creative away days, and led creative class trips the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Cannon Hall Museum and Country Park and Gallery 20-21, Scunthorpe. This first year of providing the teachers with creative fuel, We are having such a wonderful time working with the Betta Lives group in Barnsley. We are leading weekly drawing, marking making and painting workshops for this fun loving group of adults with learning disabilities, that are leading to the creation of large scale wall-based artworks for their day centre. Making our Mark is focussed on giving the individuals, rich art based experiences that provide them with new ways of communicating, working independently and achieving. The group members blow us away each week with their focus, individuality and distinct art work.
The group’s art work is shaping designs that are transforming the Betta Lives centre into a vibrant, colourful and distinct environment that speaks volumes about the individual personalities within the group, their art work and their sense of fun. As part of the project, the Betta Lives staff team are participating in all the activity as a way of developing their own creative skills and ability to lead art based activity in-house, beyond the life of the project.
