Tapestries - Dewsbury
Tapestries is a colourful celebration of Dewsbury Town Centre, specifically the people, architecture and the built environment. Working alongside people who shop, work and socialise in Dewsbury town centre, we captured a series of photographic portraits which became central to the designs within the artwork.
The shapes, textures and patterns within the three image panels were collected throughout the town. Colours were sampled from clothing, fabrics, foods and textures also found in Dewsbury Town Centre. Colours, textures and portraits are woven together to reflect the vibrancy, fun and optimism for the future of the town.
The patterns and floral images developed through the process of making the work, these seemed a fitting representation of growth, hope and possibility as new seeds are shared are planted.

The digital collages were developed from of a collection of commissioned images taken by photographers Timm Cleasby and Yvonne Roberts, of residents, business owners, and textural studies from the locality. The photographs have been utilised to create three works that represent the rich tapestry of stories, people and architecture that make up the Town Centre.
Tapestries has been sited on the Connect Housing building on Bond Street, and is a bright and uplifting beacon that highlights the development work that is taking place in this area of the town.
We were happy to support mentee artist Lisa Knight during Tapestries.
This project was commissioned by BEAM and Dewsbury Creative Town.
